Art for my children

Art has always been one of my favourite subjects in school. I have dreamed of being an established designer, creating beautiful objects and charging exorbitant prices for them : ). This dream is shelved for now (let's not discuss it further)...however, I believe in instilling in my children a love for the arts in all forms. Hence the occasional visit to the theatre for children play and peformances as well as encouraging them to draw and paint.

Art, I feel, enriches a persons life. By encouraging the girls' exposure at an early age, I hope to instil in them an appreciation for the finer things in life and not just be caught in the daily rat race as they grow up....For a start now, I encourage yuqi & yuwen to draw what they had seen and done/enjoyed during our outings. They have so far enjoy putting the SESAME STREET show, trips to the beach, Science Centre, etc etc, on paper....no point insisting if they don't enjoy it.

Yuqi & yuwen are now taking classes on ploymer clay modelling which they love...I must admit that the teacher is very good in providing a fun, almost no-boundary environment for the children to create whatever their little hearts are set on. The classes are quite free and easy with no pressure to finish within a fixed timeframe and I absolutely adore the house where the class is being conducted. Here, the children are allowed to doodle, in chalk, on the floor & walls in the compound...free expression for the children.

Having said so much, mummy must be spending alot of time with the girls on their art activities?! Regrettably, I have not been doing so. It's the case of a working mum's dilemma for me again...limited time but tonnes of things to do (work things, kids thing, me things, etc)....bad excuse but reality! Will try to make more time.... ;p
